On May 23rd, I had just gotten off the subway in Times Square and the first thing I saw was this:
A 4 foot tall Yoda made entirely out of legos!! Oh, how I wished the kids were there to see it - legos and Star Wars are very popular in our house now and I knew the boys would just LOVE it. I quickly found out that there was going to be a "big reveal" at 11 am but the actual event would run all weekend. At 11, I ran downstairs with a girl I work to see what all the fuss was about:
Ends up that to promote a new Yoda show on the Cartoon Network, Lego
created the biggest Lego model ever: a 23 ton X-Wing Fighter that I
heard has more than 5 million bricks!

I really didn't want the boys to miss seeing the ship, especially since it was only on display for 3 days. Erika and Richie were in town for Memorial Day weekend and they agreed to bring the boys up to Times Square after school the next day, which was perfect since I had a short day. Unfortunately it was raining, but that didn't take away from the excitement - when the boys got there, they couldn't believe their eyes.
To gain entry to the event, you collected a brick at the gate and needed to wait until your color was called - luckily, because the weather wasn't great, we got our beige brick and were able to go right in. While I waited on line for the boys to sit in the x-wing (how exciting), Erika and Richie walked around with the boys. There were a bunch of lego models, and there was even a make-and-take station where the kids were able to make mini x-wings to take home.
I have to say, I was really impressed by the models and I think that everyone else was too. After about 30 minutes, we had seen everything, had taken pictures with all of the models and even got a goodie bag with comics and posters. It was definitely a fun way to kick off the weekend!
